We want to learn about your investment objectives and your current portfolio in an initial meeting. How have your past experiences shaped your tolerance for risk? What is the time horizon for the investment portfolio? What are your expectations from an independent advisor like us? We also want to explain to you our investment philosophy, our current strategy and our outlook for the financial markets, so that you understand how we operate and what we think.
If you would like to engage our services, we recommend utilizing an investment policy statement that outlines your objectives, our responsibilities and the primary elements of your investment plan. It will define the acceptable range of exposure to each asset class and the targeted rate of return for the portfolio.
We recognize the importance of integrating portfolio performance with long-term financial planning. Financial planning tools at our disposal allow us to address client specific goals with an asset allocation strategy that targets an annualized rate of return for your portfolio over your time horizon. The strategy will be commensurate with your tolerance for risk. Proposals will include an analysis of how effective meeting the long-term performance targets will be in helping you achieve your particular goals and objectives. The depth of analysis in this financial plan depends on your particular planning needs.
Upon completion of the account transfers, and the execution of our advisory agreement and the investment policy statement, we will begin implementing our recommendations to align your account holdings with our investment strategy.
Monitoring and Communication
Our team monitors your account holdings on a consistent basis, measuring performance and comparing results to targeted rates of return. We recommend adjustments to your account holdings as dictated by changes in our investment strategy or your personal situation. As a client, you receive quarterly performance reports and our monthly newsletter. You also have secure internet access to updated account values, reports and documents through a customized client portal on our website.
We do not sell products or offer services outside of asset management that may be needed by our clients as a result of the financial planning process. Therefore, we refer our clients to individuals we trust who have expertise in the areas of tax, law, and insurance. We are also happy to partner with a client’s current professional advisors in these areas. We do offer analysis and advice on investment accounts that do not fall under our investment management services, such as 401(k) plans and annuities.
Things You Should Know
We are a fee-only registered investment advisor. We do not sell products, nor do we receive commissions. The only compensation we receive is our advisory fee, which is based on the assets we have under management. This puts us on the same side of the table as our clients, for as their portfolios grow in value, so does our compensation. We do not have custody of client assets. We only provide advisory services. Account assets are held with an independent custodian who provides insured asset safekeeping, executes transactions, and sends clients an audit trail of activity and valuations in monthly account statements.
